Ann Lewis

How long have you been Running?

I started running around 2001. I use to do a lap of 1 mile at 6am when the kids were in bed and hopefully no one would see me out running!

How long have you been with Caerleon Running Club and how did you come to join us?

I’ve been with the club for nearly 5 years. I was previously running with family and friends but then met Carl, the rest is history.

What inspired you to start running?

The local gym was having a refurbishment done so a few of us decided to run outside. We started off with a 3-mile loop and gradually ended up doing a half marathon in 2007. It was the Mic Morris Half Marathon, Blaenavon to Cwmbran!

What motivates you to keep running?

The social aspect and keeping fit.

What is your running ambition?

I want to run a marathon! I started training last year but ended up getting injured as I was training to fast and too often. This time I’ve changed my routine and stopped putting pressure on myself.

What do you consider your proudest moment?

Running my first half, the Mic Morris Half in 1 hour, 50 minutes!

Do you have any regrets when it comes to your running journey?

I wish I had completed a marathon years ago.

What is your favourite race, and why? If you don’t race, what is your favourite run?

I really enjoy the Merthyr Mawr Pudding race just before Christmas. Loads of lovely people with the same interests… who can get to the mulled wine and mince pies first!!
I also love the CRC Newport City loop. There’s a bit of everything enroute, stunning views, fabulous countryside and often a few fellow runners are running too!

What is your favourite music to run to? Or if you don’t listen to music, what do you think about while running?

I enjoy listening to Amazon music, in particular ‘Running Music 2022’ is my favourite go to running music now.

What is your go-to post-run drink or treat?

I love a fabulous Sunday lunch with all the trimmings. It’s obviously better when it’s already been made for you!

What advice would you give to someone who is just starting out running?

Don’t put too much pressure on yourself to go faster or run further, the whole process takes time. Running is all about being consistent and enjoying the process.

Is there anything else you would like to share?

Join Caerleon Running Club, we really are the best club!

Thank you Ann!
